Philip II as Caesar and Serapis. AE 28
Philip II as Caesar and Serapis. AE 28, 13.18g. (1h). Moesia Inferior, Tomis. Obv: M IOV IIOC KAI around, CAP AV in exergue, Bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust of Philip II facing draped bust of Serapis wearing kalathos. Rx: MHTPO ON - TOV TOMEC Asclepius standing right, head left, holding staff entwined by serpent. Varbanov 5786 (same dies). AMNG 3599 (2 spec.). About EF.

An unusual titulature for Philip II, occuring on only one of his four obverse dies at Tomis: he is called Augustus, though he is still only Caesar (bare-headed, and not IMP). See AMNG, p. 909.
