Ionia. Ephesus. EL Trite
Ionia. Ephesus. c. 625-600 BC. EL Trite, 4.72g. (11h). Obv: Spotted stag grazing right; above, retrograde, ΦΑΝΕΟΣ ("Of Phanes"). Rx: Two rough geometric incuse punches (Reverse D). Weidauer 40. The Phanes trites come in higher grade than the staters, possibly because their production began a little later. This example is exceptionally sharp, showing the full spotted body of the stag and a rather complete legend naming Phanes above the stag which also has nearly full horns and a full face. Extremely fine..

Ex Jonathan Rosen Collection.
