Lucilla, Wife of L. Verus. Aureus, 7.22gg. (12h). Rome, c. 164-169 AD. Obv: LVCILLAE AVG ANTONINI AVG F Bust draped right. Rx: Venus standing left holding apple and scepter. BMC 320. Cohen 69 (130 Fr.). RIC 783 (R ). Calico 2218 (same dies). Aurei of Lucilla are rather rare. This beautiful portrait of the empress is struck in high relief on a broad flan. There are a few planchet defects at the edge at 3:00 on the reverse and a tiny hairline on the right side near Venus' scepter. Mint State.
