Ionia, Teos. c. 500 BC. Stater, 11.75gg. Obv: Griffin seated right, jaws open, tongue protruding, left foreleg raised, grape cluster and leaf at lower right. Rx: Quadripartite incuse square. Balcer, SNR 47 (1968), Group VII (obv. die 15), Pl. XII. SNG Aulock 2254. Rare: only ten specimens known to Balcer from this obverse die. Tip of griffin's beak off flan. Sharply struck. Good EF.
